The first of The Root’s events was held on a (rather wet!) day in July, with an introduction to herb gardening and wild herbs in the lush gardens at Art in the Park in Burgess Park.
So many umbrellas!
Participants had a chance to learn about different herbs commonly found in gardens and some of their traditional uses. Did you know that the lowly onion is said to help in cases ranging from the common cold to heart disease and diabetes? We also learnt about some of the ways herbs can be used – in infusions, creams, vinegars, wine, sweets, baths, and even butter!
The sun came out eventually, and we were able to enjoy the gardens in all their beauty!
Thanks to everyone who came. And look out for more talks and workshops in the gardens at Art in the Park starting in the Spring!

Art in the park has done a feature on Baldwins with the group doing art on the various products. Then a visit to the neaby herb garden with a view to learn identification of leaves. From there a visit to the internet to find magnification of certain leaves so i could draw at the art class.
